"An Ode To Hip-Hop" | Photo Gallery from Bri

These five pictures were recently from the first exhibit I did. I was the creative director and shot the photos myself on film. I recently joined a youth center called “The Door” in the Bronx where they held a beginner film photography class. I reached out to the instructor and ended up joining the class, which took place for about 3 months.

The name of the piece is: An Ode to Hip-Hop.

AN ODE TO HIP-HOP.

I came up with the name on the fly, honestly. These photos feature from left to right: Elijah Lourde, Kareem O’Brian, Destany Samuel, Bianca Johnson and Renee Wilson -- all amazing talents.

Special acknowledgment to Zenobia Abudu-Abrams who helped model in this project -- but the shots didn’t come out well.

I took these in Prospect Park. I wanted to go for a very earthy and highly-vegetated type of spot for the background. When scouting for potential locations, I found this place and thought it was absolutely perfect.

The last picture can be found at The Door’s archive where they’re keeping a photo from not only myself, but my other classmates who were featured in the exhibition.

Part of my inspiration comes from the cover art from SZA’s album, CTRL.

The expanded photo used for SZA's critically acclaimed 2017 album, CTRL.

Not only that, but I also just thought of how as humans, our basic necessities are food, air and water.

In thinking that, I also realized music is a big part of my life. My earliest memories involve music -- so I had the idea to depict how music can be another life form in a way, and to find a way to depict that onto film.
